The first ever Skeeter Cardboard Challenge was an absolute blast! Everyone had fun and no one had to be told or coached on what to build. The kids came up with all the ideas and used their creativity, cardboard, tape and other materials to bring those ideas to life. I saw many examples of kids using their critical thinking and problem solving skills to change and improve their creations.

I was often asked things like, "Can I build a castle? Can I build a suit of armor? Can I build a racecar?" to which the answer was always YES! In a world full of, "No", and, "You can't do that," the participants were free to create whatever they wanted and the results were very neat. Below are some pictures from the challenge. I heard several kids and parents say it was one of the most fun events they've ever participated in.

One group created a "ski-ball" game where players had to throw tennis balls through holes to score points. Everyone that scored points received raffle tickets, then a drawing was held for prizes. They came up with that idea all on their own and it reminded me of a game people play at the State Fair.

Shout-outs: I really appreciate all the help provided by the MHS PALs, Geography Students, and ROTC students. This would not have been possible without the help of those students on the day of the event.This event is another example of why teaching at Mesquite High school doesn't feel like a job. I have the privilege of working with motivated and caring students every day.

I'd also like to thank www.cainesarcade.com and www.imagination.is for inspiring us to organize the Skeeter Cardboard Challenge in the first place. I never get tired of seeing Caine's face when he sees the flash mob. This has been one of the coolest things I've done as a teacher.

I also appreciate the huge amount of support from the MHS faculty & staff. We received more than enough cardboard and other materials from everyone and without it there wouldn't have been a Cardboard Challenge. Enjoy the pictures! I will upload a highlight video to YouTube in a few days.
